In my Kenya-based workshop of tribal women, I use authentic indigenous designs as inspiration and draw on the rich colours and raw materials of my native Africa. The Maasai and Samburu people are at the heart of my creativity but the original crafts and traditions of other African tribes and creations of indigenous people around the world also influence me. I make a unique collection of individually handmade garments and a range of accessories from exotic leather bags, to beaded sandals, to feathered shawls. Each piece is a unique work of art. I only use the finest quality luxury raw materials.
I hope that my work reflects a point in history where we have realized that mass production and global branding are just a sign of what has happened to us. I am lucky enough to live with people who are still so pure, and in a country that has areas that are still entirely untouched by the modern world.
My work has a magic that reflects the incredible gift Africa and her people can give us: to remind us where we came from and how pure the human spirit is. Africa is the true cradle of mankind. She reminds us how healing and powerful her energy is and how important tribal rituals are to those who inhabit her. Perhaps it is time to return to mother earth and honour her and remember how beautiful we tuly are. What we wear is just one tiny way in which we can do that. It feels wonderful to make beautiful things with such integrity to the people and the soul of this continent.
